Police say that thieves with expensive taste burglarized a Bergen County wine and liquor store.
The six thieves got away with three bottles of liquor worth $51,899.
Authorities say that the theft happened Sept. 15 around 6:45 p.m. at the Total Wine and More store in River Edge.
Surveillance pictures show that the men blocked an aisle in the store with shopping carts while one jimmied open a glass door where the bottles were kept.
“They were able to pry a glass door out of its track and gain access that way,” says River Edge Police Chief Tom Cariddi.
The thieves were able to take a 1953 Tulibardine single malt whiskey worth $28,000, a 50-year-old Highland Park whiskey worth $22,000 and a bottle of Macallan Scotch Whisky worth $1,899.
“This was something that appears to be calculated,” Cariddi says. “I don’t think this was a crime of opportunity.”
The suspects are seen walking out the front door of the shop and taking off in several cars.
Police are hoping members of the public recognize the men and give them a call.
Cariddi says he believes that the men will try to resell the liquor. The store owners did not notice the theft until a few days later.
Anyone who may have any information about the crime should call River Edge Police Headquarters at 201-262-1233.
