A new exhibit in Jersey City shows how artists are tackling the social justice issues that are front and center in America.
The exhibit is in the Art 150 gallery located at 150 Bay St. in downtown Jersey City.
Danielle Scott is the curator of "The Empowering: A Social Justice Exhibition." The exhibit showcases nearly 100 works of art by dozens of artists.
"What more has to be done in order to get us where we need to be," says artist Bryant Small, co-president of
Pro Arts, the Jersey City nonprofit organization of artists that produced the exhibit. "And feeling empowered to making change and use their voice to enact change."
Small says the Black Lives Matter movement and the deaths of Trayvon Martin and George Floyd are just some of the inequalities exposed in the exhibit.
Small says the empowering is also about those who come to see the art.
"I hope they keep the show inside," says Small. "They keep the show inside of them."
Admission is free but reservations are required to maintain social distancing.
