Tennis players are in full swing as the GHI Bronx Tennis Classic prepares to open Saturday at Crotona Park.
The tournament's director says he's thankful to Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. for allocating money to improve the park. He also believes a Wimbledon champ will soon hail from the inner city. A Bronx man will compete as a wild card this year.
The GHI is one of four professional New York City tournaments and is one week before qualifying begins for the U.S. Open. Male and female competitors will compete for $50,000 at the GHI. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the New York Junior Tennis League.
