Police are trying to find the person responsible for firing a bullet that grazed a teenage girl inside her Paterson home.
Authorities say the 17-year-old was on the second floor of her multifamily home on Main Street at around 9 p.m. Thursday when the bullet fired from the street entered the home and grazed her head. She was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released.
Rich Anello, who says he was out buying cigarettes at the time, describes a car driving on the block before gunfire rang out.
According to officials, the shooting started with an altercation on the street. As police investigate the case, they also plan to explore possible violations of nearby liquor stores to see whether the stores were selling alcohol to minors.
Despite this latest incident, shootings in Paterson are down 40 percent from last year, according to Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale. He credits the city's Cease-Fire Unit.
Anyone with information about Thursday night's shooting is asked to contact Detective Francisco Brito or Detective Christopher Ravallese at 973-321-1342.
