Police officers are investigating a serious bus accident involving a double-decker party bus in which a 16-year-old boy from Woodside, Queens was killed.
The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. According to Port Authority officials, the party bus was filled with close to 65 people, mostly teenagers.
Officials say the bus was headed from Queens to a sweet 16 party in New Jersey.
Officials say the bus had just crossed the upper level of the George Washington Bridge when the 16-year-old male passenger stuck his head out of a hatch at the top of the bus, striking his head on the Fletcher Avenue overpass.
The teen was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An NJ Transit Bus was brought in to take the rest of the teens to an administrative building.
The accident shut down all southbound express lanes of I-95 as authorities looked into the incident.
