A tough clarinet professor recently celebrated his 50-year anniversary of teaching at The College of New Jersey.
Professor Roger McKinney has been helping students become better musicians for decades. His studio sessions are hard to get in to, he only selects eight students a semester. His classes are even harder.
McKinney, who spent 30 years with the Trenton Orchestra, calls his teaching style honest. ?I don?t have time to play games. I?m a musician, a clarinetist and a musician first. What we do with music is serious business,? said McKinney.
Two of his students say they want to emulate McKinney?s teaching style when they become music teachers. ?I think he sets really great expectations for us and I hope I can do that for my students,? said Amy Wilcox.
McKinney says as long as he loves the music, he will continue to teach.
