Taco Bell has removed green onions from nearly 6,000 restaurants across the U.S. after lab tests came up positive for E. coli in several samples.
Taco Bell says it is removing green onions from the menu as a precaution until it knows the cause of the E. coli outbreak "conclusively." But the company also confirms a lab found three samples of green onions that appear to be contaminated with the bacteria.
Three Taco Bell restaurants in New Jersey were shut down after more than two-dozen people fell ill from E. coli. Health officials report E. coli also sickened several people in New York and Pennsylvania.
