Emergency responders used hydraulic tools to free a driver trapped after an electric vehicle left the Garden State Parkway and crashed into the woods.
The Township of Washington Fire Department responded to the southbound lanes at approximately 7:58 p.m. following reports of a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. Arriving units found that an electric vehicle had veered off the roadway, with one passenger managing to self-extricate while the driver remained pinned inside by a fallen tree branch.
Fire crews deployed Holmatro hydraulic cutting and spreading tools to remove the vehicle's door and clear away debris, successfully freeing the trapped driver. Westwood EMS evaluated the patient at the scene before transporting them to an ambulance for further medical care.
Officials noted that the incident marks the third single-vehicle crash on the southbound Garden State Parkway over a three-day span, prompting reminders for motorists to stay alert, adjust speeds to road conditions, and wear seatbelts.
