(08/09/06) ORANGE ? The reputed gang member suspected of killing an Orange police detective waived his right to appear at arraignment proceedings Wednesday.
Nineteen-year-old Raynard Brown, who police say is a member of the Bloods street gang, is accused of fatally shooting Detective Kieran Shields Monday night. Brown?s lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on his client?s behalf in the courtroom. Shields? father was at the arraignment and said he has faith justice will be served.
In a case of tragic irony, Shields had previously arrested Brown on weapons charges when the suspect was a minor. The slain detective leaves behind a wife and three children. Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday. Brown is being held on $3 million bail.
