Man charged in fatal shooting of Maplewood teen accepts plea deal
A man accused of fatally shooting a Maplewood teen last year has accepted a plea deal, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Yohan Hernandez pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and other charges in the shooting of Moussa Fofana. Murder charges have been dropped.
Fofana was a star soccer player at Columbia High School. He was shot and killed in June 2021 at Underhill Field in Maplewood.
Hernandez is expected to be sentenced on Nov. 16. He faces 15 years in prison.
Authorities say that Hernandez is not a U.S. citizen and will likely be deported after serving his sentence.
