(08/15/06) NEWARK ? Doctors from all over the country will soon start heading to Newark to learn about advances in robotic surgery.
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has opened its robotic training center, one of just three in the U.S. The hospital has a robot, called da Vinci, that doctors use for surgery. Doctors say da Vinci allows for more precise incisions with less bleeding. That translates into a quicker recovery time for the patient.
Doctors operating da Vinci sit a few feet away from the robot and operate the controls. Newark Beth Israel has the latest model of the robot, which is more comprehensive and precise than its predecessors. Da Vinci is used for cardiac, prostate, OBGYN and oncology operations.
