(03/28/06) SUMMIT ? Summit will soon be the first community in Union County to go above the $12,000 a year mark per resident in property taxes.
Residents say they?re not sure how much more their wallets can take. According to some homeowners, the spike in property taxes will only force people out of Summit. Many residents say the taxes are especially tough on elderly residents who live on fixed budgets.
Despite the grumbling of residents, Summit Mayor Jordan Glatt claims there?s really nothing he can do. Glatt says the residents of Summit have come to expect a high level of service from their local government, which costs money. Glatt also says he has few options when it comes to cutting costs in the budget.
