A recent study by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reveals that Bronx residents who live in Fordham have the highest rate of serious psychological distress in the city. The study shows there is a correlation between health and poverty levels. The poverty rate in Fordham is just slightly higher than the levels in the rest of the Bronx. One Bronx resident said the study didn't surprise her because of problems in the area such as finances and divorce. The Department of Health says it will try to work with the community and let it know there are ways to fight the illness. A bright spot of the study was that it revealed more Fordham residents known their HIV status than the Bronx average.
