Strong winds that rolled through parts of the Garden State Tuesday are the cause of a Gulf gas station canopy crashing to the ground Tuesday, fire officials say.
Sukhvinver Singh, an employee working at the gas station on the border of North Plainfield and Green Brook, says he saw the canopy fall. He says he was not standing underneath the canopy at the time it fell.
Singh says he is just happy to be OK, and he’s happy nobody else was in the lot at the time.
“I was very scared. I go running to the backside,” he said.
Work to slowly dismantle the canopy started Wednesday.
