(05/02/06) DOVER ? The streets and sidewalks of Dover were bustling with activity Tuesday, which was not the case during a major immigration boycott 24 hours earlier.
Immigrants staged national protests and boycotts Monday in an effort to send a message about proposed immigration crackdowns. According to residents, the movement turned Dover into a veritable ghost town. Some of the local businesses closed their doors in a show of solidarity with protesters. Others shut down because their employees didn?t show up for work.
Those who took part in the protests and those who kept their businesses closed feel they did the right thing. However, they are also wondering if their message got through to U.S. leaders.
