Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a 20-year-old Somerset County woman in critical condition.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office says that the woman was found in the driver’s seat of a car near Phillips Road and Matilda Avenue, near the Arbors apartment complex in Franklin Township Tuesday evening. Police were in the area for reports of gunfire and found the woman unconscious inside the car.
Neighbor Lisa Talbert said that she heard four gunshots. She was the first to call 911.
“And I let them know someone got shot. And those were very loud bullets, so it was a big gun,” she says.
Talbert says that she saw the victims’ white Nissan Altima blocking much of the road. She says that she did not recognize the car or the victim as someone who lives in the complex.
“The car was running, but it wasn’t moving. So, I sat there for a minute and said, ‘That car doesn’t look right,’” Talbert says.
Soon after, Talbert says that first responders arrived. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Somerset County Crime Stoppers is offering an up to $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Anyone who may have information about the shooting should call the prosecutor at 908-231-7100, the Franklin Township Police Department at 732-873-5533 or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at 1-888-577-TIPS (8477).
