The search continued Tuesday for a 15-year-old boy who went missing while swimming at a beach in Spring Lake, and officials are now considering it a recovery effort.
The boy has been identified as Josiah Jeremiah Robison, of Ewing. According to officials, he is thought to have drowned.
Robison was swimming with his sister and got caught in a rip current Sunday between Brighton and Newark avenues. Spring Lake Police Chief Edward Kerr said the two siblings appeared to be in distress in the water around 2:45 p.m. Lifeguards were on duty and were able to safely bring Robison's sister to shore, but he never surfaced. More than 80 lifeguards went searching in the hours after he went missing.
The search stopped Monday when thunderstorms impacted the area.
Conditions were calmer Tuesday, but the waves remained strong and are expected to build this week from the swells of Hurricane Dorian.
