Cold midweek ahead of a possible weekend storm Frigid and windy weather remain this week ahead of a possible winter storm that could bring plowable snow in one of two scenarios.
FORECAST:
It'll be a cold stretch for the next few days as sunshine, windy conditions, and frigid temperature linger through Thursday. Highs will struggle to reach the freezing mark in most spots with morning lows staying in the upper teens and lower 20s.
Clouds build on Friday ahead of Saturday's potential winter storm that could bring snow to New Jersey. This isn't a promise, but more of a possibility as we are monitoring the progression of two weather systems that may or may not merge over the east coast.
There are two scenarios currently on the table that would have different impacts. The first scenario is if the two weather systems merge and combine together. If they do, New Jersey could see another round of snow with plowable accumulation.
If the storms do not merge, then a grazing of light snow or flurries can pass through the state.
Winter weather forecasting takes time as data and elements reveal themselves over time. Since we are 4-5 days away from the storm's possible arrival, we can only gauge broad scenarios at this time. It's not until 2-3 days before the storm that impacts can be discussed. Location specific forecasts eventually emerge about 24 hours ahead of a storm's arrival - if that scenario is the case.
