SCHOOL CLOSINGS

Check delayed openings for New Jersey schools

STORM WATCH: Plowable snow expected to impact South Jersey overnight

A series of storms will impact the state through the weekend. Will the weather be dis"heart"ening, or "love"ly for Valentine's Day?

ALERTS: Winter storm warnings in effect for: Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties. Winter weather advisories are in effect for: Western Monmouth, Eastern Monmouth, Mercer, Northwestern Burlington, Ocean, Southeastern Burlington, Salem, Gloucester and Camden counties.
Snow will continue to overspread the area tonight. A storm moving out of Alabama right now is moving moisture into this cold air overhead. Our piece of the weather puzzle comes together when that storm transfers its energy to a developing storm off of North Carolina. It will be at that point when the snow really begins to fall in southern New Jersey.
The situation will remain snowy until 3 a.m. - 4 a.m. The weather will then begin to taper and the cleanup can begin in earnest.
I still think it's possible for delayed openings or school closings on Wednesday. Prepare for that possibility. By daybreak it's still cloudy but you will have to clean up, on average, 2 - 7 inches of snow. Less in northern areas, but those totals will creep up the further south you go in the state.
Wednesday afternoon is overcast. Temperatures will climb to the upper 30s, which is a few degrees shy of normal for this time of year. Don't rest on your weather laurels because a second system will be slingshot through the region by Wednesday night.
This time the script is flipped, and we are expecting wintery weather along and north of Interstate 78 and more rainy conditions along the shore.
For a few hours, at the onset of the next system, it likely starts as snow and/or a wintry mix in northern neighborhoods. A quick few inches are possible before the changeover and a minor, but possibly impactful, .01 inch of ice crusts over what is already on the ground. This will make for some slippery spots so as a precaution please be extra mindful walking around outside.
This will also taper early on Thursday morning. The winds will pick up, but our temperatures will hopefully rise quickly to near 50.
There is a 100% chance of love and sun on Valentine's Day. Enjoy it. Messy weather moves in again for the weekend.
