Gusty winds have been occurring all day long throughout the Garden State. Peak wind gusts have reached 30 to 40 mph frequently. The wind direction has helped to drop the temperatures. Daily highs have been in the low 40s, but it has felt much colder. It’s only going to keep getting colder in the coming days.
The January chill is not uncommon. It’s not record breaking cold, but the temperatures are a little bit below the norm in the coming days. The main story with the cold is it’s duration. The combination of cold and wind will make it feel like single digits and lower teens frequently through the weekend into next week.
There is also a few chances for snow. Tomorrow will be the first opportunity. This doesn’t look to be anything significant, but snow could be falling from 2 p.m.- 8 p.m. The evening drive could be impacted with side roads/parking lots being coated with maybe 1-2 inches of snow.
Visibilities could briefly be reduced and that’s why the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for neighborhoods along and south of the Atlantic City expressway. It’s here you’d have the better chance at 2 inches of snow making some side roads potentially slippery.
New Jersey will likely see snow from the storm. The question that remains is where does the storm ultimately wind up? This will determine if parts of the state get buried under more than half a foot or are we dealing with something more in line with a mere 1-3 inches of snow. These questions will come in better view with tomorrow's guidance.
Right now, I’m leaning on a more suppressed storm track, that would take the bulk of the serious snow and distribute it from Baltimore to Delaware over to Beach Haven. More on that tomorrow.
