STORM TEAM UPDATE: An incoming weather system could create a wintry mix followed by icy conditions. This could pose hazards on the roadways on Thursday morning. We are still gathering information on this system, stay with News 12 and we'll post new updates as they become available.
The latest weather information streaming into the News 12 Weather Center this evening continues to show a wintry storm moving through the area late tonight through tomorrow morning.
Some things have changed slightly since this morning's forecast.
It looks a little snowier. Expect 2-3 inches along and north of Interstate 78. A coating to 1-2 inches of snow along the coast.
Timing: Starts around midnight (as snow) then a changeover to sleet/ice a few hours later. Expect mainly rain from Point Pleasant and southward. The storminess begins to taper around 9 a.m. and ends by around 11 a.m.
The ice potential is still a potential problem in western and northern neighborhoods. The amounts of accrual look slightly less than what was shown this morning. But you still need to be prepared for the possibility of treacherous conditions. Any amount of ice is bad.
Friday looks sunny. Take the time to prepare for the next wintry event, which is expected late Saturday into Sunday. Another storm, with a track similar to tonight's, moves in with more snow and ice likely. Guidance is continuing to show a more potent round of snow and ice lasting into early Sunday afternoon.
A possible third winter storm could take shape next Tuesday into Wednesday. If that storm is anything like what guidance suggests it could be, then make sure the snowblowers are gassed up and ready for action. It could be a very snowy start to next week.
But before we focus on that, let's take this one storm at a time. Please be safe and smart tomorrow morning. Allow for extra time in the morning routine. Schools are already on delayed openings or closing for the day altogether. If you can work from home, that could be the prudent option just in case.
