WHAT TO KNOW

Today features a seasonable mild day with highs near 88 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Heat and humidity will steadily build through the first half of the week, with temperatures climbing into the 90s by this afternoon for central communities; statewide heat starts Tuesday. A strong, hot ridge positions itself across the state through the weekend.

With high humidity, feels-like temperatures will soar even higher, creating dangerous conditions for anyone and pets spending time outdoors. Be mindful of overexposure and take breaks from sun, seeking shade and hydration often. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also possible late in the week, including around the Fourth of July, as the hot and humid air mass becomes increasingly unstable.
