Thousands lost power across parts of New Jersey following last night’s storms, with a majority of the outages in Middletown.
On Southside Avenue, a large tree fell on a home. The tree was uprooted from near the property line of the home but was tall enough to still destroy both the upper and lower decks on the house.
“I looked out to my left, and I called out to my husband because I noticed the leaves, they were kind of like spiraling, like a funnel,” says Kelly Burtnick.
Adjacent Portland Road is littered with branches all over the area, making the morning commute treacherous.
A car's back window was also smashed by a falling tree, with another large tree cracking and crashing down on to a roof top. A vacant home on Middletown Avenue was destroyed by a tree that came crashing down.
“We’ll continue to do everything we can to make sure that we can clear up the roads as quickly as possible,” says Middletown Mayor Tony Perry.
New Monmouth Road was closed this morning after a fallen tree crossed the roadway. All schools were open today, but several had to run off generator power.
There were no injuries to report.
