State Sen. Nellie Pou will take Rep. Bill Pascrell’s spot on the ballot this November, following the congressman’s death earlier this month.
Democratic county committee members made it official with a vote on Thursday. Pou will run in Pascrell’s place in the 9th District race.
Pou is the New Jersey Majority Caucus chair, as well as the Legislative Latino Caucus chair.
Gov. Phil Murphy endorsed Pou, calling her “the ideal public servant to succeed Congressman Pascrell.”
She will be running against Republican nominee Billy Prempeh. If elected in November, Pou would be the first Hispanic woman to represent New Jersey in Congress.
