State inspectors from the Motor Vehicle Commission were in Lacey Township Monday morning to make sure the town's school buses were safe for children.
A spokesperson for the MVC tells News 12 New Jersey that every school bus in the state has two scheduled inspections per year.
A mobile inspection unit checked all the school buses in Lacey Township. School buses must pass a 181-point checklist. Inspectors check the bus's brakes, tire treads, windows, horn and seatbelts among many other items. Any bus with an issue must be fixed before it can go out on the road.
News 12 saw two inspections take place. One school bus fully passed inspection, while another one needed a leak repaired.
The MVC spokesperson says that surprise inspections on school buses can happen at any time.
