The Elegant Woman Day Gala is set for Sunday, March the 17th. It's being held at the Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater from 3 to 7 p.m. It's hosted by Positive Women Standing Together Incorporated in Jersey City. Dana Reed is the founder, Amanda Holmes is with marketing and public relations and welcome ladies. It's good to have both of you here. Great to be here. Thank you so much. It's great to be here. Thank you for having us. We appreciate it. Thank you. This Gala sounds like a fun event. Tell me all about it and what it offers. Oh, we're so excited about it is red carpet. It's uh put you in the mind of the Grammys. You know, that's something that we all love and the Oscars, we love to dress up. We love to do that. You know, this is women's mom. So we're celebrating the elegant woman. So everyone's gonna be in their gowns, they're gonna be getting their pit taken. It's gonna be like paparazzi. Uh We have fine dining that's going to be going on. Um We're gonna have comedian, we have inspirational speakers as well. So everyone's going to not only experience you know, just the positivity of womanhood and the history of women. But also they're gonna leave with that, you know, inspiring touch, knowing that they can do more, they can be whoever they wanna be. Absolutely. Absolutely. We have a lot of networking. We also have vendors that will be in attendance. They have the best food. The atmosphere is beautiful. So it's just gonna be a all around amazing day and we end it with a great night of dancing. So what else could you want? You know. So it's, it's awesome. We just can't wait to have our, our guests show up and they're gonna show up in droves too. After this description, we love that. I love the name. Positive women standing together. Thank you. Thank you. Uh You know, initially we were gonna name it positive black women standing together, but we didn't wanna do that because, you know, everyone is positive, everyone can be if they choose to be and we welcome everyone in. So it was just something we prayed about it and it came to us positive women and that's who we are. Imperfect women, striving for perfection or perfecting a sisterhood. Speaking of a sisterhood, you two are sisters. Now we're, now we're sisters in the, in the sisters in the Yes, absolutely. So, yeah, our, our goal is about collaboration between women and not necessarily competition, you know. So we are building one another up and, and that's the whole idea of positive. I mean, standing together that any woman can come to us and say, hey, you know, my husband died or I'm going through cancer treatment and we're gonna pull our network together to support them in any way possible. Absolutely. We rally around them and is there's nothing we won't do for each other. You know, when, when I'm weak, they're strong. You know, and, and it's vice versa, you know, it's just a great relationship and we are really, and it's authentic and that's the thing we love about. It is really authentic and we support each other on every single level. When I'm winning, it encourages her to win. You know, when I see her doing something great. Oh, I can do this too, you know, and, and we just all bounce off of each other and, and it's just amazing. We've been doing it for the past seven years and we're having a really good time coming up next at noon. Dana and Amanda talk about the core mission of positive women standing together. My two lovely guests are with positive women standing together, incorporated in Jersey City. Dana Reed is the founder, Amanda Holmes is with marketing and public relations. Let's talk about your core mission. Well, our core mission, as we said is to bring women together. Um we are a diverse group of women with various backgrounds. So we have uh single moms, we have people married 20 years, you know, we have uh lawyers, uh people in the medical field, so people with their own businesses. So these are all women living every life. We have women who came from the middle class background, but we also have women that came from poverty and built themselves up. So this is a really diverse group that can share their experience and knowledge with others and that really is what makes us special. Absolutely. Absolutely. We're always willing to lend a helping hand. We are always willing to lend knowledge, you know, uh resources, we put them all together and, and we just growing and we're moving and I'm just so proud of them and I'm so proud of us, you know, whenever we get together, it, it's like, um you know, when you sneaking into the, to the kitchen at night and you would take a bite of your Snicker and you, how satisfying it is. That's what I feel. Every time we get together, it's, it's just such a, a satisfying feeling and, and we have authentic love and I can't express that anymore because we really, we really love each other. We really support when we take a look at your photo gallery of pictures, how do the women benefit from the diversity and backgrounds, um, jobs and all of that? How does it help them all come together? Well, you know, there's, you know, when you have someone who has come maybe from, um, a more, more hardship and then who, who has had to come up and do it by themselves. A lot of times, you know, and, you know, maybe go to college without that support, uh maybe have Children without that support. That is valuable knowledge, even to someone that grew up middle class, you know, and, and had, and went to college and experienced, you know, the traditional way. So, so bringing these diverse backgrounds together, they, they inspire one another, you know, because we all have stereotypes about one another as well, you know, and we wanna eliminate that, you know, just because my sister here, you know, grew up in the projects, you know, and she's made her way. It's no different than anyone else that went through, you know, a traditional college background, you know, with support, supportive people. So our goal is simple to come together, be together and to take our knowledge, you know, that person, you know, that like me who grew up in the projects can now say to a pre teen, you know, we know, we know you're hurting, we know you might be struggling out there, but we're here and we are examples for you as well. That child that's, you know, on the internet every day or playing living, you know, the middle class neighborhood, we are examples to them as well. Get to get off social media to actually live to be who you are. So that's what we try to bring with all of the diversity tomorrow at 6 a.m. Dana and Amanda talk about their group appearance on a popular national talk show.

I am joined by two members of positive women standing together, incorporated in Jersey City. Dana Reed is the founder, Amanda Holmes is with marketing and public relations. And people have to know you all were on Sherry recently. Yes, just a couple of days ago, we were on the Sherri Shepherd Show and we love her. Um We were all, there was 35 of us. We were all there in purple, which is her favorite color. We got to sing, we got to dance, we got to pray with and for her we just had a all around wonderful time. It was such a good, good time. She came out and when everybody else left, she allowed us to stay. She talked to us for more than 10 minutes, hugged everyone. And it was just a great experience. Something you'll never forget, never forget. The energy was just awesome. And speaking of energy, you all have a, a lot of events coming up. You've also held a lot of events, tell us about those. Uh Well, we've been very fortunate again, we reached out to the community as well. So we have held um events recently. We held a Valentine's sort of love on event where we put together personal care bags for women, um who were, um who are basically in need. Unfortunately, um when it comes to those type of things, serving women in shelters, you know, we get um the shelters get a lot of donations, but sometimes they forget about, you know, personal hygienes, you know, that, you know, as women, our bodies experience different things. So they need things like uh menstrual products and, you know, really personal items. So we were able to put together over 50 care bags for those type of items and give those away just right before Valentine's Day. Just as a thank you uh for the women who are in need, letting them know that you are valued. You know, this is our love for you. So it was very successful as well and that would happen to be held at the Y MC A in Newark. And you have a lot of pictures posted on Facebook. We do, we do, we do on both our Facebook and our Instagram. Absolutely. Absolutely. But we also have done things like, you know, um back to school, um book bag giveaways as well. We've done Easter Basket giveaways, holidays, giveaways, you know, just to inspire women and encourage them that, you know, during the hollow age, you're not forgotten, you know, you're not forgotten on any day. So, yes, we're, we're happy about those past events and we have so many more coming up in the future that we, we're excited about as well. And of course, people can find out about your events on social media, social media, on the uh positive women standing together. We have a website uh positive women standing together the.com. Uh and we have our Instagram page, positive women standing together. How often do you all meet and get together? Oh my God. Um All throughout the year, we, we try to do events actually this year already, the uh we've been all month of March because of the women's month. We have really been celebrating the women. We have been doing so much this month, but we normally do if not every month, every other month throughout the year, we get together and coming up at noon, Dana and Amanda talk more about their activities for women's history month and summer.

You all are a busy group when it comes to the community. You have so many activities on tap. Yes. Yes, absolutely. I mean, every month we make sure that we um try to have something going on again that works within our mission where we're supporting women or also that we're supporting the community of women as well. So we're, we're fortunate we have, we're introducing a new um Saturday day camp this summer for pre teens. So we're going to, you know, just have them be themselves, but we'll have speakers there. Uh maybe a vision board party for them. Um You know, just different things, maybe um maybe etiquette classes, you know, just different things, maybe times for them just to be able to talk open talk, you know, um teach them how to journal and express themselves. So we're so excited about this, you know, because pre teens is where it's at right now, you know, that we can make the changes there. Of course, we have more community events every month we'll be going, uh, to women, either women's shelters, celebrating whatever holiday is at hand to make sure everyone is taken care of. So, so, yeah, we, we just, we just try to do what we can and then the annual brunch and we do it and every September we do a annual brunch where we get together, we usually pick a color, a, a theme and we all dress that way and then we perform for each other like one year. Um, I was Missy Elliot, somebody was Tina Turner. And we, and we perform on stage. We get in full costume and we lick sing and we dance and we do everything. One year there was a woman. She did Rick James. We, we do it all and it's so much fun and we do it for four hours and it's just so much fun over eating and drinking and laughing and entertaining, loving, supporting all of that in September. Did you all know you have that much talent in the group? We really did it now. It amazes us every year. It amazes us. It's, it's hilarious, but it's a great time. It's really a great time and Dina is just like the master of, uh, coming up with these amazing events. I mean, you know, just things that we would never think of, um, as women in general and particularly as sometimes as women of color, you know, she will drag us way out and we won't believe where we are, what we're doing. You know, we're singing, we're dancing, we're putting on performances, we're camping, we're doing things like, you know, so she is the master of that and I don't really know how she convinces. So all of us, yes, we do. We always say yes. And we get to do it all together all the L A background that you brought to Jersey. But we do it all together in the name of sisterhood. And it's, it's a blast. It's a, it's a real blast. You know, and I, I love, we always given the, an experience, it's always an experience. And I believe once the mind is exposed, it never returns to its original form. So you can't go back, you're always looking for more and more and that's what we're willing to give and that's what we do. And again, we're two fold. You know, we support the community as well as the women who are in the group. So we just try to bring it all together into one place, you know, as well.
