(09/12/06) HARLEM - Outgoing State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer won the Democratic Party?s nomination for governor Tuesday over Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.
Famed for his crackdown on Wall Street scandals, Spitzer kept up the momentum with a sizeable victory over the Long Island executive. Spitzer celebrated his win at the Dinosaur Barbeque restaurant in Harlem. Spitzer will face off in November against Republican candidate John Faso, former NY State Assembly minority leader, as the Democratic nominee.
Tom Suozzi found great difficulty in getting out his message statewide. In forming the political action committee Fix Albany, he positioned himself as an outsider to state politics who could help speed up a stalling upstate government. As he voted in Glen Cove earlier Tuesday, Suozzi announced that in the event of a loss he would not seek re-election to his Nassau County post.
