A new mural was unveiled in Hoboken on Monday.
The mural is located on Hudson Street, between First and Second streets. It covered the side of a 13,000-square-foot wall.
The mural features hundreds of bent steel panels with gaps between them for ventilation.
It was created by Canadian artist Michelle Hoogveld and painted by a team of local artists.
"As you can see in the design, there's areas of black and white and I find that symbolic of what the structure was. And through this beautiful process of Technicolor, we've added this vibrancy,” Hoogveld says. “These layers that weave and form together into a heart. And, to me, that's about the experiences of life we bring through this color – this spectrum of joy and passion."
The mural is the first major art installment under an executive order by Mayor Ravi Bhalla that requires 1% of all bonding done by the city to go toward public artworks.
