(04/07/06) WOODBRIDGE ? A Woodbridge woman is in trouble with the law after SPCA officials say she forced more than 30 animals to live in deplorable conditions.
According to SPCA representatives, conditions inside the home of 50-year-old Darlene Armstrong were some of the worst they have ever seen. They say one dog and 30 cats were forced to live among feces, urine and garbage. Some of the animals had to be put down to end their suffering. Others died of infections.
The SPCA is now caring for the animals that survived, and their conditions are improving. Armstrong faces 61 counts of animal cruelty. If convicted, she could be slapped with thousands of dollars in fines or even serve time in jail.
