The Monmouth County SPCA says a dog was abandoned on the doorstep of a vet clinic in bad shape.
The dog, who has been named Gracie, was found in a small car carrier left at Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Manalapan on Friday.
They say the Cocker Spaniel had matted fur, open sores and was covered in maggots. They say her nails were overgrown into the pads of her feet and both her eyes and ears were terribly infected.
Officials say Gracie will need several treatments, including surgeries to remove her growths and repair both her eyes and ears. There is a possibility some of her digits may need to be amputated.
The SPCA says it plans to pursue charges for whoever is responsible.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Monmouth County SPCA.
