Many of the firefighters who responded to the South Plainfield fire early this morning were shaken up by the massive, fatal fire.
A number of the volunteers are fathers who rushed to the fire this morning, leaving their own families, only to bear witness to another family's huge loss. Four children and a grandmother were killed in the fire on Clifton Avenue, officials say.As South Plainfield Fire Chief Thomas Scalera says, the counseling process for firefighters is something he's gone through a number of times, seeing many people perish in fires.
Members of a state grief and stress team will be at the firehouse Friday to talk to the firemen. The chief says that's become a standard practice.
Two volunteer firefighters were also treated for minor injuries from a car accident they were involved in en route to the fire.
