Quick action by the Teaneck Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff’s office has led the arrest of a South Hackensack man.

Teaneck Police said they arrested 23-year-old Santana Mack in connection with two overnight restaurant burglaries that occurred on Teaneck of the night of Feb. 15.

Police were first called to Chinatown Kitchen in Degraw Avenue around 3:23 a.m. after they received a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress. When police arrived, they discovered that the front glass door had been shattered, and after searching the premises no one was located inside.

Officers noted a fresh set of footprints in the snow outside of the building making them establish a perimeter with the assistance of Bogota Police Department and a K-9 tracking unit from the Bergen Sheriff’s office.

Despite an extensive search, the suspect was not located, and it was determined that cash, electronics and credit cards were taken.

At approximately 5:18 a.m. Teaneck police received a 911 call of another burglary in progress at the Best Wok restaurant in Cedar Lane.

The caller reported seeing a man hiding behind the garbage cans in front of the business and hearing loud banging noises.

Police arrived in the area within one minute of being dispatched and while checking the area, Sgt. J. Darryl Thorton observed a man, later identified as Santana Mack, walking aways from the vicinity of the restaurant.

Mack ignored Sgt. Thorton’s command to stop and fled on foot along Grange Rd. He was later apprehended near Chadwick Road.

Video surveillance from the area linked Mr. Mack to the burglary earlier, based on the clothing he was wearing at the time of the arrest.

Santana Mack has been charged with two counts of burglary, thefts, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and has been processed and transported to the Bergen County Corrections and rehabilitation center pending further court proceedings.
