A 58-year-old Middlesex County woman died Tuesday following a crash in South Brunswick on Route 1, police say.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. while the woman was approaching the intersection of Independence Way. Police say the woman was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra northbound when her car left the roadway onto the grass before striking a utility pole.
They say the impact of the crash made the car bounce back onto the road where the woman struck a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The Honda was driven by a 71-year-old South Brunswick woman.
Police say the 58-year-old woman suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where she later died.
South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau was at the scene till midnight reconstructing the crash, according to authorities. Police say they are looking to see if a medical episode or another reason was the cause to why the Hyundai left the roadway and struck the pole.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Patrolman First Class Bryan Sites at 732-329-4648.
