Many families will spend the first days of 2007 searching for a new home after a fire ripped through several apartment buildings in Hoboken. The fire began around 1:30 a.m. at 417 Jackson Street. It then spread to the church next door and to the apartments in buildings 415 and 413. Jersey City, Hoboken, and the North Hudson fire departments were called to the scene. Two Jersey City firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. All tenants were able to escape without harm. The Red Cross will house the displaced tenants in hotels or Red Cross locations overnight. One of the church pastors says unfortunately the situation is all too familiar; his parents? home went up in smoke on Christmas day.
