Some Somerset County children were learning more about New Jersey's history by participating in an archaeology summer camp.

Kids from the Somerset Hills YMCA had a chance to spend time at the Jacobus Vanderveer House in Bedminster this week and participated in a hands-on archaeology lesson.

While participating in the dig they learned how the items they found related to New Jersey's history dating back to the American Revolution.

"It certainly is not very often that most children, specifically in New Jersey, would have the opportunity to excavate at a very important site that speaks to what was going on in the Revolutionary War," says camp director Keri Sansevere.

This is the second year that the Somerset Hills YMCA offered the program.
