A group of New Jersey gas station owners say oil companies are using price zones to unfairly charge them more than owners in urban areas. Officials from the New Jersey Petroleum Council say the state is broken up into price zones based on competition. Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R-District 21) says he doesn?t believe that?s the case because some zones only cover one gas station. He's proposing a bill that would essentially eliminate the zones. Jeff O'Connor, owner of an Exxon in Springfield, says he pays more for the same gas his competitor down the street uses. He says he has no choice but to pass the higher price on to customers. Supporters of the bill say it will level the playing field and lower prices for all.
