Before lighting up a cigarette at Six Flags Great Adventure, park visitors must make sure they are in designated areas or they could get a ticket.
Jackson Township passed an ordinance making it illegal to smoke in most areas within its amusement parks. Violators could be fined up to $1,000.
At least 93 guests have been escorted off the park premises without refunds for smoking this season.
Not all security guards are allowed to write tickets. Only off-duty police officers working as guards are permitted to ticket patrons. The park can also call police or a code enforcement officer to deal with smoking violations.
Some say the municipality should not have gotten involved with park policies. Others praise the new ordinance. ?I don?t like the smell of smoke. When I have my kids, I don?t want the smoke,? park visitor Debbie Waldron said.
A Six Flags spokesperson declined to comment saying ?the policy speaks for itself.?
