(10/29/07) TRENTON - A college student in New Jersey is dead after being beaten in a campus robbery. Nineteen-year-old Donald Ferrell was walking with friends on the campus of Rowan University in Glassboro Saturday night when police say five to seven men approached, asking for directions. As Ferrell began talking to the men, at least two of them attacked, taking his cell phone and wallet before fleeing. Police say the two attackers were not Rowan students. Authorities say Ferrell was punched and likely kicked, suffering injuries to the head and stomach. He died Sunday morning, just hours after the attack. Police say Ferrell's friends had no time to react to the incident because the attack only took seconds.
Rowan students said the entire campus seems to be in mourning. Those who knew Ferrell are stunned by his death.
"He was such a nice kid you know, did anything for anyone," said junior Ashley George. "[He] was a lot of fun to be around."
The attack also has some students calling for tighter security around campus.
Investigators have released a sketch of the primary suspect. He is described as a black man in his early 20s, wearing a red baseball cap over dreadlocks.
