A sinkhole caused by a broken underground pipe has closed Lower Lake Road in Washington Township, Gloucester County, according to police.

The roadway collapsed, causing a vehicle to become stuck in the damaged section of the road, the Washington Township Police Department said.

The Municipal Utilities Authority is responding to assess the damage and address the broken pipe.

Police urged motorists to avoid the area, use alternate routes and follow posted road closure signs.
