Some New Jersey residents who are unemployed are still having trouble getting their money from the unemployment office.
Savario and Sara Lupo have been experiencing some financial issues over the last 10 months after Savario lost his job.
“I’m retired, all I get is social security,” he says.
Savario was laid off from his job at Fusion Transport in Glen Rock and immediately applied for unemployment. He even received confirmation, but the money never came. The couple has been trying to stay afloat financially for 10 months. Their savings have dried up.
“It’s embarrassing. We’ve been borrowing money from so many people – from my kids, his nieces,” says Sara.
Savario has been hard at work trying to figure out the issue. He even called in to News 12’s “Ask Gov. Murphy” show.
And on Tuesday, Savario finally got a phone call from the state Department of Labor.m
“The problem was an email, which I corrected several times with them,” Savario says. “They have my old work email in there.”
A simple error in communication would seem to have been a simple problem to correct. But the couple says that it is difficult to get in touch with some of the staff at the department.j
“They don’t have a place that you can go, an unemployment office that’s open to help people like us that are older,” Sara says.
Savario says once he gets online and certifies his account, the money should be on its way.
