With the first night of Hanukkah on Sunday and Christmas Day on Tuesday, there are not many days left for holiday shopping.
There was Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday – but retailers are now getting ready for “Panic Saturday” – the last Saturday before the holidays.
Edison’s Menlo Park Mall was moderately busy Friday afternoon as holiday shoppers continued to make their purchases. Some shoppers said that the shorter period between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year put them a little behind in their shopping.
“We’ve seen a lot of traffic. We’ve seen busy parking lots. We’ve seen great activity at the Santa set,” says mall general manager Robert Edelen. “It’s been very busy. And we’ve seen a lot of bags, which is always a good sign.”
Malls nationwide are expected to have extended hours this weekend to allow for last-minute purchases.
