All public schools in the Asbury Park School District are closed Thursday and will be closed Friday due to shooting retaliation fears.
A shooting Wednesday morning at the corner of Summerfield and Prospect avenues, near the Asbury Park Middle School, left 18-year-old Tylik Pugh on life support. Detectives have been going door-to-door in the area trying to get information and leads on the shooting. Meanwhile, a single candle sits in front of Pugh?s home, as he remains hospitalized. Some school officials fear the shooting may be gang related. The Board of Education made the decision to close all of the schools in an effort to keep kids in the city safe. The city?s mayor says he will ask the attorney general to send in state police to help control the violence in the area. Click here for reaction from the victim?s family.
