Boaters in Monmouth County can once again travel through the Shark River channel as the Route 71 bridge between Belmar and Avon-by-the-Sea remains in the open position.

Officials say testing and inspections under the bridge were completed ahead of schedule, allowing marine traffic to resume today.

The bridge is still closed to drivers and is expected to reopen sometime in August.
