A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday for a Camden County man who was shot and killed outside of Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia last week.
David Padro, 23, of Camden was shot shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday after an argument broke out between customers outside of the well-known shop. Witnesses said that the argument was apparently over a parking space.
Pat’s owner Frank Olivieri said that this was the first slaying he could recall outside the restaurant. His family has owned the business since the 1930s.
A vigil for Padro was held Sunday evening outside of the cheesesteak shop. A GoFundMe set up for funeral expenses has raised more than $10,000.
Paul Burkert, 36, of Reading, Pennsylvania, is charged in the shooting.
Defense attorney A. Charles Peruto Jr. said Monday that Burkert was acting in self-defense. Peruto says that his client was being “getting pummeled” before the shooting.
Burkert faces charges of murder, reckless endangering, evidence-tampering, conspiracy and weapons offenses.
