Sen. Bob Menendez is heading to Puerto to Rico to survey the island's damage.

The Democrat and New Jersey native is on his way to the island now that his corruption trial has wrapped up for the week. 

During a news conference Thursday, Menendez said he would be joining the governor of Puerto Rico to survey the island to understand the magnitude of the humanitarian challenge.

Menendez, who has a brother in Puerto Rico, said Wednesday that the U.S. had not "done what we need to do" to help Puerto Rico.
