Air travelers heading to NewJersey can soon breathe a little easier.
The Department of Transportation says improvements are being made to the facility that deals with flights coming in and out of Newark Liberty International Airport.
Over the past month, several communication breakdowns between air traffic controllers and pilots have caused numerous issues.
"Verizon has laid a brand-new fiber line between Philadelphia and New York. That was the trouble portion of the line. It's been laid, and we're doing some of the connections right now, and then we have to test it. I don't want to over promise and under deliver," said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. "If it all goes well, we should be able to turn over this new fiber line at the start of July."
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is also calling on Congress to back a plan for a new air traffic control system, although he doesn't know how much it will cost.
