Tonight’s previously scheduled Asbury Park homecoming celebration and game against Keansburg have been canceled as a result of anonymous threats of violence, according to Chanta L. Jackson, central registrar/communications coordinator with the Asbury Park School District.
Jackson says Keansburg officials notified Asbury Park High School Principal Bridge O’Neill Friday that they will forfeit tonight’s matchup after Keansburg school officials received unspecified threats of violence concerning the impending game.
The Keansburg School District is requesting the game be rescheduled after a full investigation.
Jackson says the cancellation is out of an abundance of caution for students, athletes, families, spectators and the community at large.
