School bus drivers reached a tentative agreement Wednesday with the city, ensuring that thousands of Bronx and city students will get to summer school.

The leadership of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1181 met with the New York City Bus Contractors' Coalition Wednesday morning at a hotel on Staten Island. They hammered out a three-year deal, but neither side has disclosed the terms. However, a union spokesman said the deal has no givebacks and no concessions. School bus drivers, escorts and mechanics will vote on the contract July 18. The union authorized a strike last month, saying members were concerned about paying a 1.5 percent health premium when their contract expired.

Drivers took about 37,000 students to school this morning. The Department of Education had planned to give students and parents MetroCards and reimburse some for travel expenses if the strike went into effect.
