A school bus driver who was caught on video reading text messages while driving students has been suspended.

The Old Bridge school superintendent says that the driver was suspended indefinitely on Tuesday after a video surfaced that showed the driver steering the bus with her left hand and holding the phone in her right hand.

The video of the Shamrock Stage Coach Bus service driver was posted to a private Facebook page for Old Bridge Township school district parents. 

District Superintendent David Cittadino said he was "deeply disturbed" by the lack of concern for student safety.

“I am sorry this happened and I thank you for sharing the video. I cannot stress enough that school safety is my greatest priority,” Cittadino said in a post on Twitter.

The district has discussed the matter with police.

The driver’s name was not released.
