SCHOLAR ATHLETE: News 12 partners with NJEA to award 5 students with scholarships

It has all been leading to this tonight out of our 30 scholar athletes this year. News 12 and partnership with the N. J. E. A is proud to present scholarships to our top five. Nick Madonna's has more including the overall winner. When we spoke to Katie Kaczynski, she was preparing to deliver a graduation speech, finishing number one in her class of more than 500 at Bayonne High School. Her message. It's not just about what you want to be and I'm kind of trying to encourage the class to focus, you know, now in this pivotal point to focus on who you want to be moving forward. She is one of our finalists earning $1000 scholarship to use at U. C. L. A. Same goes for hillsides, Matthew, M. A C. A. And Aaron brooks who's taking his studies and track career from Eastern Regional to Monmouth University. Sprinkling kindness along the way, it's really easy to be kind. You just say good morning to everyone. Say good evening. Like I asked how they're doing things like that. It's the little things. Melville's record breaking quarterback is also staying in New Jersey set to study physical therapy while competing at Rowan. Rowan has two other kids in my class going for quarterback. So there's going to be some competition and I'm ready for that. All these kids are ready including the overall winner News 12. New Jersey's Scholar athlete of the year, Jefferson's, Kyla Butler, she's off to study civil engineering at. Clarkson University where she is set to join the alpine ski team. Ski racing is the sport that I definitely feel at peace and myself with skiing, she says, is an escape from Tourette syndrome. But Kyla won't let it stop her in any part of life. No one knows that better than mom she would from when she was a little girl. Never give up with. I want to do everything everybody else is doing and now she does it better. Nick Madonna's news 12 New Jersey. Amazing. Now with the help of NJ Ea, Kyla gets $5000 for being our winner. Along with that 1000 for being named a finalist. She's an advocate for the New Jersey Center for Tourette's syndrome and founder of not just Tourette syndrome awareness.
